Theme Ride Thursday: This Vampire Marriage Must Be Stopped!

Here at ICA we love Halloween and give you plenty of Halloween profiles. If you’ve been a member for a few years you might be looking for something new. Bill Pierce’s Halloween profile takes you to Transylvania to stop a vampire marriage because as we all know, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the vampires with a baby carriage! Before long, the entire world will be overtaken by lovestruck vampires and their children. Since vampires live forever, this vampire marriage must be stopped. You’ll encounter some spooky things along the way. The real question is: Are you willing to come, or are you too scared?

This is an all-terrain interval ride that includes climbing in Zone 3 and 4, harder pushes up hills or on flats in Zone 4, and a few above-threshold anaerobic surges sprinkled in. Recoveries should be Zone 1 or Zone 2. Occasionally there is insufficient time for full recovery, so the riders may begin the next interval not completely recovered or wait to join in when they are ready. Heart rates are raised throughout the ride, sometimes through exertion and other times from fright.

The music all relates to some aspect of Halloween: candy, a cemetery, hell, the devil, Transylvania, and vampires. Bill chose a wide variety of genres. Most of the selections are quirky, humorous, and definitely not your Halloween standards, which is reflective of Bill’s style. After all, who wants to hear “Thriller” or “Monster Mash” for the millionth time?

  1. This is such a great concept Bill ! Bravo.
I am going to use this in my class this year for Halloween. I’m making a few tweaks to shorten it a bit as I only have a 45 minute time slot to teach. I found a fun short song to swap one of your longer ones. Thought I would share it in case you or others might like it too. Check out Vampire by Nitemayor – https://youtu.be/3RTIXUzCr2M Cheers, Liz

Liz – I’m glad that you liked it. I’m looking forward to using it again next week. I’ve recently picked up a 45 minute class over lunch so I will also need to shorten the profile for it. Your suggestion of Vampire by Nitemayor is a strong possibility for my modified playlist.

  2. Bill, you have exceeded expectations once again! Your profiles are most definitely quirky and one-of-a-kind…which makes them all the more desirable by instructors looking to be unique.

Thanks. My riders loved the old Halloween adventure ride that I did for over a decade but I was tiring of it. So, I created this ride last year and they seem to love it even more. I hope that many ICA members give it a try for their Halloween profile and that their riders enjoy it as much as mine have. Even if they don’t choose to do “This Vampire Marriage Must Be Stopped!”, there are 8 other awesome Halloween profiles to use as options from ICA’s archives. Where else but the Indoor Cycling Association’s website can an instructor find the quantity and quality of Halloween rides?
