Theme Ride Thursday: Do You Believe in Magic?

While most of us associate October 31 with Halloween, it is also, fittingly, National Magic Day, and the day that Harry Houdini passed in 1926. Magic Day started over 80 years ago initially as “Houdini Day,” a day marked to celebrate the famous magician. This holiday was brought to light by the national president of the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.), Richard Bowman.  Over time it has become a week-long event where magicians from this society perform free shows for those in need, a common charitable practice of Houdini’s, who was also a member of S.A.M.

Celebrate National Magic Day with these songs that have the word “magic” in them. We’ve compiled more than 45 songs spanning over 2 hours, including classic favorites such as “Black Magic Woman” by Santana, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” by The Police, and “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band, to recent pop hits including “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars to indie songs such as “Magic Spells” by Crystal Castles.

  1. WOW. I had no idea October 31 is National Magic Day and that Houdini died on Halloween! Thank you for keeping us in the loop on these fun and fascinating facts! I will share with my riders tomorrow on Halloween. I made carrot orange muffins for them and zero fat and so healthy. My husband said they taste great but need butter!!! It is so hard to know what to bring for treats to class. I bring a variety of power bars sometimes and another instructor scolded me stating how unhealthy protein bars are but I teach coaches and they love protein bars. I can’t win!

  2. LET ME SUGGEST YOU PUT PLAYLISTS ON i TUNES. NOT EVERY ONE HAS SPOTIFY

    1. I’m not sure what you want me to do. There is no way to put a link to an iTunes playlist…it’s not something that is possible. This is why we add both a Spotify link as well as the pdf of the playlist. That way, you can see the songs and decide whether to purchase them and add them to your own iTunes. I have most of these songs on my own iTunes, which is what you can do if you use iTunes and not Spotify.
