Theme Ride Thursday: Bottom’s Up—A Drinking Playlist

Today we raise a cup (a red Solo cup!) to toast songs about drinking. Whether you’re a fan of day-drinking, Sunday Fundays, or some liquid courage to get you dancing, there’s something here for you. It’s no surprise that there are many country songs written about drinking. It seems they go hand in hand. We stuck to our favorites and excluded any Irish songs—otherwise, this list would go on for days. Oh yeah—for any expletives in these songs, we “blame it on the alcohol!”

As always, let us know what we’ve missed.

Cheers!

  1. Here’s another; Beer by Reel Big Fish.

  2. I created a Pub Crawl journey ride to precede a cocktail party at one of my facilities. The concept was that we’d ride to a bar for a drink. But each time we arrived they were out of alcohol for a different reason, so we’d have to ride faster to the next bar, where it happened again…The playlist was all about drinking and contained several of the songs in your list. A couple that I used that aren’t on the list are: “Champions of Red Wine” by The New Pornographers and “Drunk Girls” by LCD Soundsystem. After not getting drunk at any of our stops because they were out, the journey ride climaxed with a breathless surge in Zone 5a just to get high. It was set to Phantogram’s “You Don’t Get Me High” and “Feel Good Hit of The Summer” by Queens of the Stone Age, before recovery began with Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab’. Everyone had a blast doing it and no one was so drunk that they fell off their bike (because the cocktail party was afterwards).
