Theme Profile: Hounds of Halloween

This fun but spooky profile is not for the faint of heart—neither you nor your students! Christine weaves a thrilling tale, combined with spooky sound effects, creepy music, apprehension, horrified escapes, and, of course, some hard work. Grunting allowed!

This profile gives you space to throw in your own creativity to add to the story line. One that that I find very intriguing is the fact that she leaves the story dangling at the end, to be continued next year! How will your students respond? She does give an alternate ending if you think your students won’t like a dangling ending, but I think it adds to the creepiness of the story. Hey, if  producers make us wait nine months for the next Downton Abbey, your students can wait for Part 2. 😉

You’re going to have to dig up some sound effects for this profile, but Christine tells you where to find them.

  1. Thank you for sharing this profile Christine. I taught this class this morning and and had some lovely comments at the end. I told the class at the beginning and again at the end that the profile and story was created by Christine Nielson. You are now famous in my spin studio. Thank you!

  2. I just finished mixing the music for this ride. I am a fan of soundtracks. They are perfect to convey emotions. Soundtracks have a very well defined purpose on every ride. This specific profile with its story has been nicely crafted. Just listening to the music, my heart beats! I cannot wait till I am telling this story on a bike tomorrow night!

    Very well put together!

I need to put this into a multimedia ride! Super Duper Good! No other way to describe it!

    Ride on!

Thank you so much for your kind words about the profile and for posting your mix. Music is so important both for fun rides like this one and for creating and supporting intensity in other classes. It is often difficult to imagine what contribution the music will make when we just read a profile. Your mix has lifted the words off the page and into our imagination.

  3. I love the story of this ride. I am in the process of getting all the music. It just happens I teach tomorrow night! This is a must! Love the inclusion of Hybrid music on the profile.

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love the creativity in this ride!!! I taught a version of it this morning and my class LOVED it. I changed some of the music to suite the taste of my riders and I did change the end. I had my cyclists, get out of the boat, think they were safe and then have to run again from the howling sound. We ran up a hill to a house at the top that had its lights on and knocked on the door. When the door opened, our friends yelled “SURPRISE! What took you so long?” with the sound of Monster Mash laying in the background. The contrast of the dark, heavy classical and electronic music, with the silliness of Monster Mash was fun. Thanks for the wonderful ideas!!!

    1. Great twist on the ending, Leslie!

I completed the story in my classes this year. There’s lots more narrative and a surprise ending. You’ll have to wait until next year to find out how I rescued the protagonist.

  5. Loved the entire profile:-)
