Quick Profile: The Eagle Has Landed! The Lunar Landing Anniversary

On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first humans ever to land on the moon. Six hours later, Armstrong became the first human to walk on the surface of the moon. As he took his first step, he famously relayed back to Mission Control in Houston, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Last year for the lunar eclipse, I created a lunar-themed profile, which you can find here. That post includes our popular Stars, Moon, and Planets Spotify playlist with almost 200 songs. We also have a Sci-Fi and Outer Space playlist (over 100 songs) and profile that you can find here

I decided that the moon landing 50th anniversary deserved its own profile. This profile uses songs from that playlist that are more specific to walking on the moon to guide you through four climbs at threshold.

If you want to add some trivia to your lunar landing class, here are a few links.

1969 Moon Landing.

When Apollo 11 Landed on the Moon, Major League Baseball Stood Still.

The conspiracy theory that the moon landing was a hoax could make for a fun discussion in your warm-up and recoveries. Here’s some info on that, and this article discusses why the hoax theories still persist even though it’s been debunked many time. This Youtube video debunks it as well.

During the Apollo 11 mission, the #1 song on the billboard charts was “In The Year 2525” by Zager and Evans. (Thanks to ICA member Ed Maher for the heads up on that fun bit of trivia!)

Let me know how you enjoy the profile and playlist in the comments below.
