Quick Profile: Black Friday Intervals in the Shopping Mall

This is a journey ride based upon the US holiday of Black Friday, which occurs the day after Thanksgiving. It is historically the busiest shopping day of the year with stores opening early to offer tremendous deals. Many people spend their day going from store to store to take advantage of these incredible offers. The stores are packed and the event is extremely intense and stressful. The intent of the profile is to mimic some of the experiences that occur on Black Friday and to match the stress with high-intensity intervals. Just as shopping on Black Friday is a tradition for many people, this ride has become a tradition in my classes every year during the week of Thanksgiving. It beats overeating turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie!

The playlist is mixed and includes several songs related to shopping to set the proper mood. Sound effects are sprinkled throughout the playlist to make it feel real and add some levity to break the intensity. The profile is intended for a 60-minute class but may be shortened to a 45-minute slot by removing the segment of riding our bikes to the mall after the warm-up (“Alone Together”), and the climb to the first floor after taking a break, along with its recovery (“Go With The Flow” and “Intro”).

And if you love this theme, then make sure to check out our Black Friday playlist and our Shop ’til You Drop profile.
