Theme Ride Thursday: Let the Madness Begin!

Let’s Dance!

March Madness is by far the best American sporting event of the year. There’s nothing quite like it. Three uninterrupted weeks of extreme highs and lows, surprises, and disappointments. The upsets, crazy comebacks, and buzzer-beater games. And let’s not forget those brackets!

March Madness Passion is Powerful

In my opinion, the best thing about March Madness is the passion. Passion exudes from everyone—from the players to the coaches, the fans to the announcers. In this tournament, if you don’t play your best, you don’t get a second chance. There’s nothing like watching a bunch of college kids put it all on the line, possibly for the last time, pushing the limits of what looks humanly possible, training their minds and bodies to compete at such an intense level and fast pace. These kids play with their hearts, with a win-or-go-home attitude. Only one thing makes a difference: the most passionate team will win it all…

The Profile

Our March Madness ride takes that energy and brings it into the studio. The ride starts at the beginning of March Madness and brings you through the six rounds of brackets. The first half of the ride focuses on strength-building and drills. As your team progresses through their bracket, the ride gets more challenging as the competition becomes more intense. This interval ride incorporates lots of transitions between hard work and short breaks. The intensity will be high (it is March Madness, after all), so depending on their personal level of conditioning, riders will need to listen to their bodies. Urge them to take a time-out on the bench when needed.

Music chosen is a mix of hip-hop and pop. Additional song suggestions are included in the March Madness playlist if you’re looking for other options, or if you teach a longer class.

Good luck on your brackets!

  1. No March Madness in 2020 🙁

    1. I know, crazy huh! We often schedule our TRT posts two weeks in advance, so obviously the cancelation happened after it was scheduled. Moving forward, I am going to be cognizant of not posting a seasonal theme that no one can really take advantage of. Instead, I want to post a lot of fun theme ideas that instructors will be able to take advantage of once we are out of this threat.

      Be well!

  2. I am not a basketball fan, but I used the March Madness profile this past Sunday and received numerous compliments for this Race Day theme ride, which simulates running up and down the court with the numerous surges. The storyline of a Cinderella team advancing through the brackets is so heartwarming and entertaining. The coaching cues are first class and “Shots” is my favorite interval due to the seamless flow in the choreography. If you haven’t used this profile yet this year, it isn’t too late. You have until April 9.

  3. Great playlist and thanks. I added a few different songs by artists who will perform at the 2018 NCAA March Madness Musical Festival which starts Friday, March 30, 2018. I find this is a fun way to keep it fresh every year.

  4. I’m sure we can find a way to apply this to sporting events in the UK , but could you please explain the meaning and context of ‘the brackets’. Thanks

  5. For those of us in Chicago, and Bulls fans from back in the MJ days anywhere, Alan Parsons Project’s Sirius is synonymous with basketball. When I’ve used this, I’ve acccompanied it with the player’s intros, finishing with “and from North Carolina, number 23…”
