ICA Contributor Riding the Erie Canal, Wants to Meet Other Instructors

christine on eire trailChristine Nielsen is an instructor from Canada, and a contributor to the Indoor Cycling Association, who has been very successful at convincing her students to purchase road bikes, train diligently, and accomplish long distances outdoors. She spends the winter getting them in shape and teaching them proper cycling technique, and then combines indoor and outdoor training and education in the summer. She’ll be writing a series on ICA about how she’s been able to do this so successfully.

In the meantime, she will be doing a week-long cycling tour along the Erie Canal trail in July and is hoping to connect with ICA members or instructors of like mind, either for a meal, to ride for a while, or just to connect and chat.  Here is her e-mail to me with the information about her trip:

I’m riding the Erie Canal trail with Parks and Trails NY, starting in Buffalo on July 7 and finishing in Albany on July 14. We’ll be camping overnight in Buffalo, Medina, Pittsford, Seneca Falls, Syracuse, Rome, Canajoharie, and Scotia. I have done this trip before and am repeating it because the experience was so wonderful. I’d like to change things up this year and would love to meet ICA members who live along the route. Perhaps we could have a meal or ride together for a while. Please e-mail me at cnielsen@eastlink.ca if you’d like to meet up.

I love to learn from others and ICA is a nice way to ensure that the people I meet will have similar interests and standards.

The photo above is Christine the last time she rode the Erie Canal Trail, at the Nott Memorial at Union College in Schenectady, NY. Christine was visiting her Alma Mater, where she was amongst the first class of women to attend Union College.

I hope some of you connect—we’ll post the photos here on the ICA blog!

I live in Spencerport, NY! The Erie Canal runs through there. Please come over and I will cook a feast for you and give you overnight accommodations of you like instead of you camping n Pittsford. I can then ride with you the following morning to
Pittsford from Spencerport (17-miles) to catch you up with your group. I have 2.5 bathrooms and can put up other riders too.
My boyfriend and I cook quite a bit, sui the more the merrier!

I live near the canal east of Syracuse in Fayetteville. Happy to have you over for dinner and if the weather is miserable you can stay the night and let your tent air out in our garage overnight. I have 3 sons and my husband and I love CNY riding 6 months out of the year. I teach spin a few days a week but I doubt you’d want to join in considering the miles you will be undertaking on your canal tour. Email me if you’d like to connect.
