A ROCKING review of an indoor cycling studio – by a world-class Ironman triathlete!

Spining studioGood reviews of your indoor cycling studio are important. Excellent ones are even better. But when you get a rockin’ review from a world class triathlete (especially one who is going to race Lance Armstrong), then you’ve knocked it out of the stratosphere!

ICA member Kathy Erlich-Sheffer opened up Cycledelic studio last summer in Rochester, New York. I’ve known her for several years and watched as she has gone from dreaming about her own studio, to the scary steps of leasing the space and deciding on bikes, to hiring instructors to opening her doors. She and her staff of instructors are devoted to keeping it real. They still get the student who comes in and wants to lift weights in class “like they do down in New York City” but Kathy and her instructors (several of whom are ICA members) stick to what is safe and effective. I wrote about Cycledelic last December when she brought out instructor extraordinaire Shirin Beckett to teach some virtual rides.

Now, triathlete/mom/passionate-do-gooder/blogger Mary Eggers has secretly snuck into her facility and took a class unannounced with Kathy’s husband Matt, and Mary was floored by what she experienced. A world-class triathlete floored! She wants to come back, too. Read her review of the class she took at Cycledelic, and of the studio itself, on her blog. (And when you read this review, click on the other two blog posts she links to about being a “SpinningĀ® snob” and “How to get the most out of your SpinningĀ® class”. Ah man, this is a woman after my own heart!)

If you are a studio owner, or are thinking about opening your own studio, or perhaps you are an instructor (or student) at a small studio which could use some advice about providing the most effective kinds of workouts for the students, then please share this blog, and check out Cycledelic. There may be some thing you want to start implementing in your classes. If you could get a local blogging elite triathlete or cyclist with a big following to come take your classes and write about it, well then, that’s about the best PR you can find!

Remember, the Indoor Cycling Association can help you get to this same level of instructing!

I can attest to the class act that Kathy has built at Cycledelic. She was one of our Winter Training sites, and had 2 of her students come to Hawaii with us for the first leg of our First Client Virtual Cycling Shoot. She is engaging students at every level, and providing resources like Cycling Fusion and ICA to drive value well above and beyond the typical studio – KUDOS to KATHY!
