By Jennifer Sage On January 28, 2012 No Comments

I received this email message today that I’d like to share with you:

Spinning class Keep it Real

Well, Leo, that puts Keep it Real in really good company! Thank you, and you are very welcome!

Here is a Facebook message I received recently:

Spinning class keep it real

The word is getting out – but there are still way too many instructors who do not Keep it Real and who do not know why they should. Those are the ones who really need to read this.

Keep it Real was originally written for cyclists who take indoor cycling classes, to teach them what to avoid, and

Spinning Instructors run in the family and start early!

By Jennifer Sage On January 25, 2012 1 Comment

I saw this video posted on a Facebook Spinning® group page and thought it was so adorable I asked if I could share it on my blog. This is Spinning® Instructor Jenn Lee’s daughter Keira a few years ago when she was 6 years old, on her home “Spinning” bike, teaching a class! It’s a little hard to understand at times but you will be awed by her cuteness. Pay attention to this young lady – she gives you some good form tips! 😉

Jenn Lee fulfilled a dream last year and opened up her own club in Winthrop, Massachusetts, near Boston. It’s called Move-Fitness, an 8,400 sq. ft facility with Spinning®, Zumba®, many other branded fitness classes, and personal training. Way to go Jenn – I can’t wait to hear more

How Indoor Cycling Can Make You Happier!

By Jennifer Sage On January 24, 2012 1 Comment

ICA member Clair Cafaro of C.O.R.E. Cycling shares this awesome article:

New Year, New Possibilities: Your thoughts are affecting your ride

How Indoor Cycling Can Make You Happier

So now we know that riding our bikes increases brain fitness (January 2012, “Indoor Cycling is Good for your Brain”). And you already know that riding your bike makes you feel great. What you may not know is that what you’re thinking about in spin class and the experience the class provides actually changes the physical structure of your brain. (I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in). As author Sharon Begley points out in her book “Train Your Mind – Change Your Brain “the brain devotes more cortical real estate to functions that it’s owner uses more

Workouts have their limits

By Jennifer Sage On January 23, 2012 2 Comments

spinning classBased on what I know about most of my readers and ICA members, you, the person reading this blog post, most likely already know this: too much high intensity exercise is not a good idea. In fact, it may injure you or burn you out.

We now know it’s true because the NYT says so.

Really? Is this such a news flash! Why doesn’t everyone already know this? The fitness industry, and the readers of most mainstream fitness media, tends to behave like a pendulum. It’s a mentality of doing something one way for awhile (i.e. “fat-burning zone”) but then they find out it is not totally true, so they swing ALL the way to the other side (forget “fat-burning” and only do HIT). But they forget how much territory is

My Miracle Cleanse! Share this with your students!

By Jennifer Sage On January 19, 2012 3 Comments

After years of trying so many different products, I finally found the perfect cleanse. But instead of me writing about it, I’m just going to reprint the information by the author (not the “creator” mind you) of this method. He is a fellow presenter at the FitnessFest in Scottsdale (as well as highly regarded trainer and presenter at many conferences). See if you agree with Brett:

My Miracle Cleanse
By Brett Klika

After years of searching, I’ve found it. The most effective tried and true “cleanse” in the world. This revelation carries good news and bad news for the American public. The good news? If you do it right, this miracle program will have you looking, feeling, and performing at the top of your game for the rest of your life. The bad news?

Another Manifesto to live a purposeful life

By Jennifer Sage On January 18, 2012 No Comments

Last week I wrote about Luciana’s Spinning® Manifesto. This morning, a friend and ICA member sent this great Youtube video to me. It’s the Holstee Manifesto: The Lifestyle Video, about living a purposeful life. I love the message, and I love that it includes a lot of different people riding bikes. Life IS short – make it count! Enjoy…

The Spinning® Instructor Manifesto – by Master Instructor Luciana Marcial-Vincion

By Jennifer Sage On January 12, 2012 3 Comments

One of my most favorite Master Instructors for the Spinning® program is Luciana Marcial-Vincion. I’ve known her for years, as a co-team member of the Spinning Master Instructor Team, and once had the amazing honor of co-presenting with her at a Crunch conference in Atlanta. It was just Luciana and me, alternating sessions back and forth. I learned so much from her just being in the same room. When I wasn’t presenting, I sat in the back and frantically wrote down every word she said!

Luciana and I share many of the same philosophies and passions, and I just found out another thing we have in common – she also doesn’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions! While I suggest that you have a Revolution in your thinking, Luciana calls her concept a Manifesto. She has written a brilliant article
